Founded in 2001, Acumenta is a software and information
company serving biotechnology and pharmaceutical firms and research organizations.
We build applications on the Acumenta platform that automate purposeful
information gathering, analysis and management tasks associated with Web-based
and proprietary external and internal databases. Acumenta's initial software
product on this platform improves both the efficiency and quality of online
research in the life sciences R&D function. It has been installed
and operating successfully for over two years in commercial life sciences
firms as well as in top tier research institutions.
Overriding Business Value
Acumenta's overriding business value is customer responsiveness and satisfaction.
We have developed an innovation process and a listening process that are
grounded in continual customer feedback and centered around customer and
industry priorities. Life scientists, R&D project team leaders, information
professionals and bioinformaticians continue to be involved in providing
design guidance and feedback for Acumenta's first product offering.
Biopharma and Online Research Experience
The Acumenta team is well-qualified to deliver significant value in the
area of biopharma online research support. In 1989, the team started its
work in the field of semi-structured text searching. In addition to the
technical aspects of delivering high quality, text search results, the
Acumenta team focused on two end user challenges:
- Enabling end users to build powerful yet easy-to-create search queries.
- Providing effective, post-search information management capabilities.
In addition, the team tackled the challenge of developing fully automated
and self-contained information applications. The first such application
was a competitor compound tracking system for pharmaceutical firms. This
application tracked the progress of competing drug compounds through the
R&D and clinical trial process, and was purchased by 19 of the top
20 pharmaceutical firms.
The Acumenta team brings a unique blend of experience in and understanding
of the life sciences domain, data management and text mining, the invisible
and often subscription-only Web, the information publishing business,
information hosting, software technology and effective implementation
and end user support practices.
